{"id":567,"date":"2022-05-21T18:47:16","date_gmt":"2022-05-22T01:47:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/coldstreams.com\/travel\/?p=567"},"modified":"2022-06-18T14:52:02","modified_gmt":"2022-06-18T21:52:02","slug":"easiest-countries-to-move-if-not-old","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/coldstreams.com\/travel\/2022\/05\/21\/easiest-countries-to-move-if-not-old\/","title":{"rendered":"Easiest Countries to Move &#8211; if not too old"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>One of my goals is an extended stay in another country in hopes of maybe, just a little, catching up on the experiences in life that most 20-somethings have.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But getting an extended stay visa for an older person is impossible in many, if not most countries, particularly if you are &#8220;too old&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>New Zealand is a popular destination for immigration mainly because of its Skilled Migration Program. However, to qualify for this program, there are several criteria that you have to meet. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>For starters, you have to be under 55<\/strong><\/span>, be highly skilled in your field, and have work experience. But, if you meet these criteria, you can live in New Zealand for two years and then apply for a resident visa.<\/p><p>However, similarly to New Zealand, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>[for Australia] you have to be under 50<\/strong><\/span> (for most visas), have the required skills, relevant experience, and usually score enough points in the scoring system- if you are applying for a points-based visa.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Source: <em><a href=\"https:\/\/visaguide.world\/tips\/easiest-countries-to-immigrate-to\/\">Easiest Countries to Immigrate to in 2022 &#8211; Best Countries to Move to<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Canada&#8217;s immigration is points-based. As you get older, points are subtracted for every year of age!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are, as best I can tell, perhaps a couple of dozen countries where retirees are accepted &#8211; s<a href=\"https:\/\/www.indiatimes.com\/culture\/travel\/9-of-the-easiest-countries-in-the-world-to-get-permanent-residency-at-265252.html\">uch as Belize, Ecuador, Paraguay<\/a>, etc. &#8211; and if you have enough money, you may qualify for an investment visa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most places provide extended visas for<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>study abroad programs<\/li><li>workers, although sometimes restricted to specific job categories, such as health care<\/li><li>sometimes for marriage or family ancestry (Ireland, Italy, for example).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Those options apply primarily to those who are younger. Study abroad makes little sense now, since I already have two Masters degrees, and at my age there is no financial return for my investing in another degree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As I researched this topic, I concluded that it is de facto impossible for me to stay in European countries for more than 90 days. Wow, kind of a surprise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I might qualify for residency in Canada because my wife&#8217;s Dad was born there, and she qualifies for Right of Descent citizenship (but she is not interested in pursuing that). Marriage does not provide automatic residency, either. But if I am married to a Canadian citizen and provide proof of financial resources so as not to be a drain on Canada, then I too could receive residency there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s sad that countries that promote diversity actively discriminate by age, making a mockery of their desire to be viewed as modern and hip.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Many online resources discuss &#8220;easy countries to move to&#8221; &#8211; but if you check the fine print, this applies primarily if you are young &#8211; usually less than 35 to 55 years old. Above those ages, and the number of countries you can move to is a rapidly diminishing list.<\/p>\n<p>I would like to do an extend stay in another country, somewhat similar in duration to a typical college student&#8217;s study abroad of 4 1\/2 to 9 months duration.
