That\u2019s more of an ultra-expensive, long vacation than a retirement.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Retire to Australia?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Um, they quit issuing retirement visas in 2018.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Retire to Mexico?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>the Mexican government recently raised income requirements for permanent residency to at least&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mexperience.com\/financial-criteria-for-residency-in-mexico\/#:~:text=When%20you%20intend%20to%20use,described%20in%20the%20table%20below.&amp;text=A%20regular%20income%20of%20at,Some%20consulates%20request%2012%20months.)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">$7,300 per month<\/a>, far beyond what most retirees can prove.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Portugal?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Portugal, the new kid on the block, is currently suffering from sticker shock in expat hot spots like Lisbon due to an acute housing shortage.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Canada?<\/em><\/strong><em> (My addition to their list)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Canada currently prohibits those without existing permanent residency status from buying property in Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Except for perhaps 20-25 countries, it is difficult for Americans who lack an immigration privilege to move to other countries.
