At least 58 other members, including 42 in the House and 16 in the Senate, were born in the United States or its territories to at least one immigrant parent, according to a Pew Research Center analysis of biographical information from the Congressional Research Service, news stories and members\u2019 official websites and genealogical records through Feb. 8.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>These percentages are less than they were in the past.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sen. Bernie Sanders&#8217; father was an immigrant from Poland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I suspect the profile of Congressional members is similar to that of the U.S. population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>15% of the U.S. population was born abroad.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>25% are either born abroad or have at least one immigrant parent.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>40% were either born abroad of have at leat one immigrant parent or immigrant grandparent.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Many members of Congress were born abroad, or are the children of immigrants.
