{"id":3244,"date":"2024-06-02T12:22:33","date_gmt":"2024-06-02T19:22:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/coldstreams.com\/travel\/?p=3244"},"modified":"2024-06-02T12:22:34","modified_gmt":"2024-06-02T19:22:34","slug":"fake-news-story-about-an-ordinary-mom-of-2-saves-thousands-by-working-from-other-countries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/coldstreams.com\/travel\/2024\/06\/02\/fake-news-story-about-an-ordinary-mom-of-2-saves-thousands-by-working-from-other-countries\/","title":{"rendered":"Fake news story about an ordinary &#8220;mom of 2&#8221; saves thousands by working from other countries"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/coldstreams.com\/social\/2022\/10\/23\/fake-news-how-a-digital-nomad-mom-of-2-used-geo-arbitrage-to-save-thousands-on-food-and-childcare-while-working-from-multiple-countries\/\">Fake news: \u201cHow a digital nomad mom of 2 used \u2018geo-arbitrage\u2019 to save thousands on food and childcare while working from multiple countries\u201d \u2013 Social Panic (coldstreams.com)<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The spin is how an ordinary mom of 2 now works as a digital nomad, using the strong U.S. dollar and currency arbitrage to save tons of money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Except this story left out a few things &#8211; like, in fact, leaving out almost of the actual background &#8211; which when you see it, realize that this fake news story falsely led you to believe anyone could do this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This story left out a few things:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>She is an upper-level manager at a company that\u00a0<em>sells global health insurance for remote workers<\/em>\u00a0\u2026 her husband works for the same company<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>She was\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.femalefounderstories.com\/lona-alia.html\">born in Albania, moved to the US at age 15<\/a>, and attended university in the U.S. (Other reports say she was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/swaay.com\/u\/lona_alia\/about\/\">modeling in Albania at age 16<\/a>, which conflicts with the age 15 move to the U.S. and her own statement that she grew up for ten years in Albania \u2013 confusing)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>She has native language proficiency in Albanian, proficient in English, Italian and speaks some German, Portuguese, Spanish and Turkish.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In addition to a BS in the US, she did her MBA at the Hult International Business School<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Did an EU internship in Albania<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Did an Entrepreneur in Residence in Switzerland<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Worked in SF, then NYC, and now works remotely for a Norway based company.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Was founder and CEO of a business.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Has\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.femalefounderstories.com\/lona-alia.html\">traveled to over 60 countries<\/a>. (Actually she is up to over 80 now.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>She almost certainly has EU citizenship and US residency so they can bypass the 90-day visa stay limit restrictions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>She also had pretty privilege, having worked as a model from age 16 onwards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes indeed &#8211; you too can pack your kids and move to a European nation where everything is wonderful!
