Without providing a number, the percentage is meaningless gibberish. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/hannahfrishberg\/\">20-something writer<\/a> has a degree in poli sci. The source for this information is her own <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/07\/20\/more-americans-are-moving-to-spain-despite-high-costs\/\">prior story<\/a>, which in turn, quotes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2023\/07\/17\/more-americans-are-moving-to-spain-paying-high-prices-for-real-estate.html\">a CNBC report<\/a>, which was sourced to a report by the General Council of Notaries in Spain &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.notariado.org\/liferay\/c\/document_library\/get_file?uuid=3d4f2b73-8fae-43a2-a132-60571cbd87f7&amp;groupId=2289837\">which is a dead link<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Factfulness<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ine.es\/jaxi\/Datos.htm?path=\/t20\/e245\/p08\/l0\/&amp;file=02005.px#!tabs-tabla\">Instituto Nacional de Estadistica<\/a>, about 78,000 Americans are living in Spain. This is not a large number, contrary to the story&#8217;s claim.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.globalcitizensolutions.com\/americans-moving-to-spain\/\">relocation service<\/a> puts the number at about 30,000 but that might be an estimate from many years ago.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Less than 1% of American retirees are living in another country: <a href=\"https:\/\/coldstreams.com\/travel\/2024\/01\/06\/how-many-americans-retire-abroad\/\">How many Americans retire abroad? \u2013 Coldstreams Travel and Global Thinking<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In any given year, about <a href=\"https:\/\/coldstreams.com\/travel\/2024\/01\/03\/how-many-americans-live-abroad\/\">1.4% to 2.7% of Americans live abroad<\/a>. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>As seen in <a href=\"https:\/\/coldstreams.com\/travel\/2023\/09\/04\/the-media-myth-that-americans-can-just-move-abroad-for-a-better-life\/\">Part 1<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/coldstreams.com\/travel\/2023\/12\/29\/part-2-the-myth-that-americans-just-pack-up-and-move-abroad\/\">Part 2<\/a> stories on the myth of moving abroad, linked in the right column, these stories ae fluffy nonsense that follows a standard outline:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>America is awful<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This person\/couple\/family moved to country X where everything is wonderful<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Most of the story subjects who &#8220;moved abroad&#8221;, did not really move abroad &#8211; they commute due to a 90-day visa limitation &#8211; or they had immigration privilege with dual citizenship or <a href=\"https:\/\/coldstreams.com\/travel\/2023\/02\/27\/1-out-of-5-u-s-residents-was-born-abroad-or-their-parents-were-born-abroad\/\">right of descent ancestry immigration privilege<\/a> that most people do not have. See Part 1 and 2 for details.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>As seen in the actual numbers, very few Americans make these treks for full time living abroad.
