Most countries require you provide a PCR test taken within 72 hours, plus have plans and the ability to fund a quarantine if you test positive anytime after arrival. Many countries mandate multiple tests – Bahrain, for example, requires 4 additional Covid tests after you arrive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Not shown on this list but some countries require that you purchase “in country” health insurance, quarantine insurance and\/or medical evacuation insurance. Some also have fines for failure to comply with these and mask orders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As of yesterday, the World Health Organization said those over age 60 should not travel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To my naive eyes, this seems to make international travel very expensive compare to just two years ago. Am I missing something?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Also, there is now a huge industrial testing industry set up for this – they will lobby to maintain their testing complex for years to come. We can imagine demands to expand testing to more diseases and\/or antibody tests in the future. This seems poised to become permanent – expensive but at least its largely worthless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of December 2nd, the Biden Administration added a mandate of testing fully vaccinated passengers within 24 hours of flight departure for all in bound flights. They already require mandatory cloth facial coverings. On day #643 of 15 days to flatten the curve, our only solution is to do more of the same that has not worked so far<\/a>. There is no end point metrics – for all we know, this goes on forever. The only end point to a pandemic is immunity – or the virus mutates to a less bad form. NPIs, if they work, merely delay reaching that point. <\/span><\/strong>There is a lack of intelligent leadership at all levels of this pandemic response.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
