…women\u2019s dominance of travel is both startling and decisive. In the U.S., women dominate leisure travel by a 63% to 37% ratio over men. Worldwide there is a similar skew, with 64% of global travelers being female, versus 36% male, according to RV and Playa<\/a>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

It is literally a two to one ratio, women to men.<\/p>\n

A similar ratio exists in study abroad programs:<\/p>\n

About two-thirds (67\u00a0percent) of all students studying abroad in 2017-18 were women, a\u00a0percentage that has increased slightly over the past decade, from 65.1\u00a0percent in 2007-08.<\/p>\n

‘Open Doors’ data show continued increase in numbers of Americans studying abroad (insidehighered.com)<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Women live, on average, 7 years more than men, and may take up travel in retirement.<\/p>\n

The first article, above suggests a possible link to women posting selfies of travel experiences on Instagram, which in turn, may motivate other young women to travel. IG has long favored attractive young people and TikTok made it part of their recommendation algorithm to promote videos featuring attractive young people with an appearance of having money and engaged in exotic activities.<\/a><\/p>\n

Most travel advertising is said to feature women as models in the ads, possibly inspired by the trends on Instagram.<\/p>\n

Thus, there are potentially many forces encouraging women to travel but not so much for men.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"

Recreational travel is dominated by women by a 2:1 ratio over men.
