The Guardian has issued staff guidelines for how to use terminology in association with climate communications stories.<\/p>\n
Rather than using facts of CO2 rising, sea level ice and temperature changes, ice mass changes the following pejorative terms are to be used. Anyone who does not 100% adopt The Guardian’s perspective is to be officially labeled a “denier” (name calling, transference from “Holocaust denier”, get on the bandwagon). The word “climate” should be associated with “crisis”, “emergency” or “heating” (transference, fear).<\/p>\n
1.) \u201cclimate emergency\u201d or \u201cclimate crisis\u201d to be used instead of \u201cclimate change\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n
2.)<\/strong> \u201cclimate science denier\u201d or \u201cclimate denier\u201d to be used instead of \u201cclimate sceptic\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n
Anyone that does not 100% adhere to the convention wisdom is required to be labeled a “denier” by The Guardian. The term “denier” was selected, originally, for its association with “Holocaust denier” and is an intentional, pejorative propaganda term.<\/p>\n
3.) Use \u201cglobal heating\u201d not \u201cglobal warming\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n
4.) \u201cgreenhouse gas emissions\u201d is preferred to \u201ccarbon emissions\u201d or \u201ccarbon dioxide emissions\u201d. <\/strong><\/p>\n
5.) Use \u201cwildlife\u201d, not \u201cbiodiversity\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n
6.) Use \u201cfish populations\u201d instead of \u201cfish stocks\u201d<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
