{"id":8600,"date":"2019-09-22T00:55:00","date_gmt":"2019-09-22T00:55:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/socialpanic.org\/?p=8600"},"modified":"2019-09-22T00:55:00","modified_gmt":"2019-09-22T00:55:00","slug":"climate-communications-the-guardian-goes-full-propaganda","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/coldstreams.com\/social\/2019\/09\/22\/climate-communications-the-guardian-goes-full-propaganda\/","title":{"rendered":"Climate Communications: The Guardian goes full\u00a0propaganda"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p>The Guardian has updated its style guide to introduce terms that more accurately describe the environmental crises facing the world.<\/p>\n<p>Instead of \u201cclimate change\u201d the preferred terms are \u201cclimate emergency, crisis or breakdown\u201d and \u201cglobal heating\u201d is favoured over \u201cglobal warming\u201d, although the original terms are not banned.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The word &#8220;crisis&#8221; does not appear in the thousands of pages of the IPCC reports. There is one reference to &#8220;Emergency&#8221; and that is in reference to &#8220;Emergency Medical Services.<\/p>\n<p>The terms &#8220;crisis&#8221; and &#8220;emergency&#8221; are an invention of the media and the language of propagandists. Search online for the term &#8220;crisis&#8221; and you find <em>everything<\/em> is now labeled as a &#8220;crisis&#8221;. It&#8217;s the go to word when you want to engage an emotional response.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWe want to ensure that we are being scientifically precise, while also communicating clearly with readers on this very important issue,\u201d said the editor-in-chief, Katharine Viner. \u201cThe phrase \u2018climate change\u2019, for example, sounds rather passive and gentle when what scientists are talking about is a catastrophe for humanity.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Rather than report on the facts and logical basis for climate concerns, The Guardian chose to select scary words rather than the actual term used by scientists &#8211; that is, &#8220;climate change&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>See our <a href=\"https:\/\/coldstreams.com\/social\/?s=climate+communications\">other posts on &#8220;Climate Communications&#8221;<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Increasingly hysterical pseudo news using methods of propaganda is not the way to effectively communicate concerns over future climate.
