When normalized for square footage, alone, let alone the many additional amenities of new homes, the difference in the ratio is surprisingly small.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But never ask a reporter to understand numbers &#8211; this has so many errors as to make it fake news: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/money\/personalfinance\/2026\/07\/03\/home-prices-mortgage-rates-first-time-buyers-millennials\/90773681007\/\">For under-40 Americans, buying a first home has never been harder<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This error in real estate reporting is so common that it has become standard practice.
