Do you know where your birth certificate is?<br><br>If the answer to both is no, then you cannot vote under the SAVE Act.<br><br>The SAVE Act is NOT a voter ID bill. The cost of a birth certificate obtained directly from a government office ranges from $10 to $31. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Surveys indicate 89% of US adults have access to &#8220;proof of citizenship&#8221; documentation (a birth certificate at least), but an additional 9% do not have &#8220;ready access&#8221; because it is located elsewhere (such as college students who have them at their parent&#8217;s home, or in a safety deposit box), and 2% do not have a current birth certificate or other identification. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>25 US states currently require a photo ID for voting and accept, depending on the state, any state or federal ID including driver&#8217;s licenses, state non-driver IDs, military ID, passports, free voter ID (some states), public school and college issued ID, retirement center ID, concealed carry license. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>12 states accept alternative, non-photo ID (including a bill, a bank statement and a variety of other documents, showing your name and address), and 13 states have no ID requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I am not arguing in favor of the SAVE Act but noting that currently, about 2% of adults would be impacted for not having a birth certificate on hand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Others claim &#8211; falsely &#8211; that people who get married and\/or change their names would no longer have valid documentation &#8211; this is not true: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.help.cbp.gov\/s\/article\/Article-1284?language=en_US\">US Citizens\/Lawful Permanent Residents name does not match documents<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even the media gets the story wrong, as usual:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"856\" height=\"165\" src=\"https:\/\/coldstreams.com\/social\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-331.png?wsr\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-20368\" srcset=\"https:\/\/coldstreams.com\/social\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-331.png 856w, https:\/\/coldstreams.com\/social\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-331-600x116.png 600w, https:\/\/coldstreams.com\/social\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-331-768x148.png 768w, https:\/\/coldstreams.com\/social\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-331-604x116.png 604w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 856px) 100vw, 856px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Others falsely asserted you could not vote unless you have a $165 passport and thus, the SAVE Act is a poll tax. That claim is untrue (and birth certificates, for the 2% who lack access, cost $10 to $31, depending on your location).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/coldstreams.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/image-1.png?wsr\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-57240\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Another misleading item from a Congressional Representative<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"596\" height=\"734\" src=\"https:\/\/coldstreams.com\/social\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-322.png?wsr\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-20302\" srcset=\"https:\/\/coldstreams.com\/social\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-322.png 596w, https:\/\/coldstreams.com\/social\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-322-487x600.png 487w, https:\/\/coldstreams.com\/social\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-322-219x270.png 219w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 596px) 100vw, 596px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The media spins it as an innocent grandfather and Army veteran wrongfully taken by ICE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ICE says<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cOn September 18, ICE arrested Godfrey Oliver Wade, a criminal illegal alien from Jamaica. His criminal history includes&nbsp;domestic assault, criminal trespass, reckless conduct, deposit account fraud, violation of probation, multiple arrests for driving on a suspended license,\u201d Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement provided to&nbsp;<em>Newsweek<\/em>.  \u201cIn 2014, an immigration judge ordered him removed after he failed to show up for his immigration hearing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-us\/news\/us\/who-is-godfrey-wade-veteran-detained-by-ice-faces-deportation\/ar-AA1RVCU8?ocid=BingNewsSerp\">Who is Godfrey Wade? Veteran detained by ICE faces deportation<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>He had 52 years to apply for residency or citizenship but apparently had not done so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>In 2014, President Obama&#8217;s administration ordered Wade to be deported.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Should he be deported? Possibly not.
