Women became the majority of journalism grads beginning in the 1980s; however, since women made up only about 35% of newsroom jobs in the 1980s, it was not until recent years that they became the majority of reporting staff.\u00a0 However, note that in the 1980s, women were the majority of all college graduates and have remained the majority for nearly 40 years.<\/p>\n<p>Simultaneously, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/opinion\/2021\/09\/01\/usa-today-newsroom-now-majority-female-sees-gains-staff-diversity\/5659410001\/\">numerous journalists report that women in news are oppressed<\/a> &#8211; even as they became the majority of reporters in a trend that is continuing to increase. This perspective may be shaped by the tendency of news reports to segment the world into victims and oppressors.<\/p>\n<p>Traditional reporting jobs have been decreasing, particularly as many newspapers failed to make a business model transition to successful and sustainable Internet-based news.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Women account for 55% of newsroom jobs, while men account for 45%.
