New cases have plunged and deaths have dropped by 1\/3d. Neither of those trends is captured in the thumbnail image on the front page of their web site.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/coldstreams.com\/social\/wp-content\/uploads\/Reuters-Actual-Mar-2-2021.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-11435\" src=\"https:\/\/coldstreams.com\/social\/wp-content\/uploads\/Reuters-Actual-Mar-2-2021.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"377\" srcset=\"https:\/\/coldstreams.com\/social\/wp-content\/uploads\/Reuters-Actual-Mar-2-2021.jpg 720w, https:\/\/coldstreams.com\/social\/wp-content\/uploads\/Reuters-Actual-Mar-2-2021-300x157.jpg 300w, https:\/\/coldstreams.com\/social\/wp-content\/uploads\/Reuters-Actual-Mar-2-2021-516x270.jpg 516w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is probably not deliberate &#8211; just laziness. Someone, at some point in the past, created a graphic image of the curve as it was perhaps 7 weeks ago. And that thumbnail has stayed ever since.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, we know that the majority of readers only read &#8220;headlines&#8221; and not the underlying story. The same is possibly true for graphic elements like this. The effect is that many people will only see the date graphic and not realize that the situation &#8211; now &#8211; is far better than the graphic suggests.<\/p>\n<p>This is just laziness, not nefarious.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Laziness leads to Reuters showing a thumbnail graphic that is badly out of date, and which may mislead readers into thinking the Covid situation is much worse than it is now.
