Media: The US is the worst country in the history of the world

I first encountered this media bias when I started reading travel stories, which are often bundled in with “I moved abroad” stories. Every story is identical

  • America is awful
  • So this individual, couple or family moved to another country
  • Where everything is better and they lived happily ever after.

That is the summary of most “I moved abroad” stories. I’ve written a lot about this on my Travel blog.

Digging a deeper I found the authors, in almost all cases, had attended elite private universities, studied and lived abroad, and had often attended private schools in the U.S. They profited enormously from family wealth created in America, to have the option to pursue low paying passion degrees (typically in creative writing). Almost all had privileges enabling them to move outside the US – almost half were attractive, highly educated young women who married a foreigner to obtain a “Mrs residency Visa”. About 1/3d had prior dual citizenship or a “right of ancestry” immigration privilege (recent family relatives in Ireland, Italy, etc).

Among the most privileged people on the planet because of their American birth.

Then they make a career out of bashing the country. The cognitive dissonance is astounding.

I had been in that camp too – down on the U.S. Until I completed a review of nearly 500 “moved abroad” stories and saw the idiocy of highly privileged Americans bashing the country that gave them their privilege. I began to see how the media’s rich kids brain washed all of us into seeing only negativity and doomerism. There is never anything positive in the U.S.

My views changed to being grateful, optimistic and hopeful – and realizing the devasting effect that media doomerism is having on all of us.

This week we come to the World Cup games being held in the US – and we get trash stories like this in the NY Times: Welcome to America, the problematic host of the World Cup – The Athletic

The media’s constant hatred of the US is off scale. Meanwhile, foreign tourists who have come to the games are sharing their very positive experiences on social media. In a sane world not filled with media hate, these would be featured.
