Muslims make up 1-2% of the US population but per AI assisted search, but receive a disproportionate amount of news coverage – accounting for up to 20% of news coverage mentioning a religion. Similarly, Jews make up 1-2% of the U.S. population but also can represent 20% of news coverage of religion. The Catholic church also receives much coverage, but generally related to the Vatican or the Pope, and in the past, church scandals.
Disproportionate news coverage biases the public in to thinking that, for example, there are far more Muslims or Jews in the U.S. than there actually are.
