The city has a 30% office vacancy rate, a horrendous shop lifting problem and vehicle theft problem. Many stores including Walgreen’s, Target and others have closed rather than continue operating in this environment.

Another west coast city with similar problems is Portland. Once a nice city, the downtown has high vacancy rates, homeless and drug addicts everywhere, and property and vehicle theft crime is rampant. The city recently announced it intends to crack down on the theft problem – but they typically make these announcements every year and nothing gets better. The result is few want to live in these cities anymore.
