I am so old, I remember when “Free trade” and “globalization” were the future. Now, not so much as Congress provides government (taxpayer) subsidies to U.S. semiconductor manufacturing.

The argument is we need to bring this back inside the U.S., because Covid disrupted supply chains for many things including semiconductors, and because of fears China will take over Taiwan, where many semiconductor plants are located (they are also located in other countries too). And we can only do this if the taxpayers help fund expansion or development of plants in the U.S.
