The Environmental Protection Agency said it would set the 2022 levels for corn-based ethanol blended into gasoline at 15 billion gallons.

…..

Most gasoline sold in the U.S. contains 10% ethanol, and the fuel has become a key part of the economy in many Midwest states. The fuel consumes more than 40% of the nation’s corn supply, and ethanol and other biofuel production plants offer jobs in rural areas that have seen steady population declines over the decades.

The EPA says ethanol fuels make your gas mileage worse:

MPG. Due to ethanol’s lower energy content, FFVs operating on E85 get roughly 15% to 27% fewer miles per gallon than when operating on regular gasoline, depending on the ethanol content. Regular gasoline typically contains about 10% ethanol.5

Amongst that backdrop, President Biden says he is doing everything he can to lower fuel prices while requiring use of less efficient ethanol fuels and canceling the Keystone XL pipeline extension (because we are not supposed to use any oil anymore).
