The photo-sharing app has quietly rolled out a pop-up notice prompting users to “try a new account.” Can a fresh start keep people from losing interest in the platform?

One, TikTok’s short videos have attracted much eyeball time – including away from Instagram.

Two, Instagram took FOREVER to allow desktop users to upload photos. Instagram believed it was an “instant” smart phone photo sharing site and thus made it difficult, requiring obscure work arounds, to upload photos. In late 2021, they finally enabled desktop photo uploads.

Three, the pandemic ended many opportunities people had for spontaneous and fun get togethers, the source of many posted photos. Lacking content, there is less and less to see on Instagram. This is true for my IG newsfeed.
