If your online persona is friendly and helpful, you are more likely to have a positive reputation – versus presenting a overbearing “in your face” sales approach.

This also applies to corporations and businesses that use social media to connect to customers. Some see social media – such as Facebook or Twitter – as mere marketing channels to pump out more advertising. Which comes across as spam.

Others create communities. I belong to a camera manufacturer’s Facebook group. Every few days they post links to photo galleries, often by professionals, showing the quality work being created with their cameras. This is friendly – not a constant stream of sales pitches – that keeps customers engaged with the brand.
